SC Prep Teacher of the Year - Kara Mallory
The South Carolina Preparatory Academy would like to congratulate our Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Kara Mallory! Mrs. Mallory is the Middle School Math Teacher at SC Prep.
Mrs. Mallory started her career in advertising, but later pursued her true calling - teaching. Even from a young age, Mrs. Mallory knew she wanted to be a teacher. She used to set up a play classroom in her basement and set up stuffed animals or seat her friends down to listen to her lessons.
Mrs. Mallory earned a post-baccalaureate teaching certification in Special Education and Middle Grades Math from the University of North Georgia. And a Masters in Teacher Leadership from Kennesaw State University. She worked in Forsyth County Georgia as a Math Teacher and cheerleading coach for three years. After she had her second child, she decided to start teaching remotely. She began working with SC Prep last year when her family moved to South Carolina.
Passionate About Students
Mrs. Mallory is passionate about impacting her students. Math was a subject she struggled with in Middle School, so she wanted to learn how to teach it so her students could understand. One of the ways she believes she can impact her students is to partner with the adults in their lives to help them together. She attributes much of her teaching success to her students. “Each and every one of the starfish that I get the opportunity to toss back into the ocean are the greatest indicators of my successes as a teacher. I hope there are a handful who I see grow into grown adults, whose weddings I stand at and whose future children I hold. Watching them become who they become is the greatest honor of all.”
A Bold Approach
“Be Bold.” That’s what Mrs. Mallory would advise new and aspiring teachers. She says you can learn a lot from veteran teachers, but she says “do not let your excited light about becoming a teacher be diminished because you have different ideas… bring fresh ideas to the table!”
In addition to teaching, Mrs. Mallory is a wife and mom to three kids. As a family, they like to go swimming, walking, playing outside, game nights, cooking and date nights. She also loves to spend time journaling and reading her Bible with a good cup of coffee, running, reading, and Pure Barre.
Teachers are the backbone of SC Prep. And we are proud of Mrs. Mallory!
